Sierra Leone Deputy Minister of Health Engages Turkish Counterpart, Strengthens More Ties
Istanbul, Türkiye, Friday 20 October 2023 - On the sideline of the 9 Turkish Medical World Congress, Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Charles Senessie has engaged his colleague, the Turkish Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Şuayıp Birinci, and has strengthened more ties.
The 9th Turkish Medical World Congress, with theme "Artificial Intelligence in Health", aimed to create scientific bridges, the Congress brought together distinguished scientists and researchers who are experts in their fields.
The Turkish Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Şuayıp Birinci welcomed his counterpart and said that their relationship with Sierra Leonean was established in 1971, saying that Turkish Embassy in Freetown commenced its operations on 1 February 2018; while Sierra Leone opened hers in Ankara in the beginning of 2020. He further noted that Sierra Leone and Türkiye continue to work in close partnership to improve training of healthcare personnel, pharmaceuticals, and other areas in the medical sector.
“Many people from Sierra Leone are now coming to Türkiye for advanced medication, we will continue support in areas of mutual interest; also, I want you to use this opportunity to engage our medical professionals and identify areas where we can improve our the healthcare system of Sierra Leone”, Dr. Şuayıp Birinci asserted.
On his path, Sierra Leone Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Charles Senessie, thanked his counterpart, saying that both countries have enjoyed many good things in common.
He added that he looked forward to seeing Turkiye helping to improve Sierra Leone’s healthcare system, which he said is the priority of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio’s government. He also informed his colleague that he needed more cooperation with regards medicines, and pharmaceuticals.
“Sierra Leone needs your support in research which is the backbone of Healthcare Delivery. I am happy to participate in this Congress, particularly when the focus is on Artificial Intelligence that will strengthen health care services”, Dr. Senessie noted.
