H.E. AMBASSADOR MOHAMED HASSAN KAISAMBA JOINS SIERRA LEONEAN STUDENTS IN THE TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS IN THE CELEBRATION OF SIERRA LEONE’S 61ST INDEPENDENCE
On Saturday, 30th April 2021, the Sierra Leonean Student Union of the Cyprus International University, in collaboration with the International Centre of the Cyprus International University with the international office, celebrated the 61st Independence Day Anniversary of Sierra Leone at the Pickobel Grounds, Cyprus International University, Haspolat, Lefkosa, TRNC. The aim of the program is to foster a good relationship between Sierra Leonean Students and the Cyprus International University, thereby recognising the presence of over 200 Sierra Leonean Students studying at the Cyprus International University.

The occasion, which brought together over 200 Sierra Leonean students in unity, love, and harmony, was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to Turkey, H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Kaisamba, and staff of the international office, international centre, representatives from the Rectorate, Director of International office, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cyprus International University.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the CIU applauded the unity of the Sierra Leonean Students studying at the CIU and thanked them for choosing to study at the University. He advised the students to concentrate on their studies and explore the recreational opportunities the university offers. He added that the university’s aim is to provide quality education at an affordable cost, stating that the doors of the university will always be open to welcome qualified students and prepare them for the world at large. He also thanked the Ambassador for honouring the invitation extended to him to grace the auspicious occasion.
The president of the Sierra Leone student union in CIU, Ms Badria Gibril Sesay, gave a brief history of Sierra Leone whiles encouraging her fellow students to focus on their purpose and return home in contributing to the country’s development.
In order to make the program memorable, Awards were given to some offices in the university as a way of appreciation of Sierra Leone’s recognition in the university, and also to the first set of players who took part in the futsal tournament organised by the international centre.
As keynote speaker of the event, His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Kaisamba thanked the Cyprus International University for receiving the Sierra Leonean students with open arms, providing a safe atmosphere for studies, and the support in making the Independence Day celebration a success. Addressing the students, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the invite and the unity shown by them. He furthermore implored the students to fly the flag of Sierra Leone very high by prioritizing their education, continue to live in peace, unity, and harmony and keep fostering a good relationship with the University.
